item16

To reestablish the former position of baseball in the community, Triple-B (BBB) commercial baseball in Brooklyn was organized and operated between the years 1998 and 2003 using local Brooklyn players on local Brooklyn ballfields playing in front of local Brooklyn spectators. Unlike professional baseball, the players were not paid. Unlike sandlot and church-league baseball the players generally did not have to pay to play. Financial investments and related sport business activities funded by district ballclub owners subsidized or paid for the big expense items like umpires, uniforms, and field maintenance.

COMMERCIAL TRIPLE-B (BBB) BROOKLYN BASEBALL LEAGUES

For most of the last century, the sport of baseball was generally regarded as the "National Pastime." More than a metaphor for life, to many people baseball was life where mental decisions and physical actions had real consequences that lasted forever. Recent times have seen baseball in decline where big money and other sports options have taken away the "time" once spent with baseball activity. In Brooklyn, this decline started with the departure of the Brooklyn Dodgers.
