From the Queens border to Broadway lies Brooklyn Community District #4, Bushwick, inside lines set in a Dutch charter of 1660 for "Boswyck," one of six towns that became the City of Brooklyn in 1834. Now a leading hispanic community in the Borough of Brooklyn, the district is cut by Knickerbocker Avenue, its own main street, and Myrtle Avenue, linking to the rest of Brooklyn and to Queens. Amid new building, the "el" still rumbles over Myrtle Avenue and tower twins of old St. Barbara's Roman Catholic Church still appear above all. |
